About Me

I am a preservice teacher currently studying English Secondary Education at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. I am also pursuing a reading license addition and a minor in creative writing. Ideally, I would like to teach English, literature, and writing in middle or high school, preferably grade levels 7-10.

As a teacher, I believe all students have the ability to learn and will work on encouraging all of my students to believe in themselves and their ability to improve. I do not tolerate bullying of any kind. I believe literature gives us great power in understanding ourselves and developing empathy with others, and I plan to honor this in class discussions and books I recommend to my students. As a writer, I follow the middle grade and young adult fiction markets and plan on bringing this knowledge into the classroom to help my students find what they enjoy reading.

Students of the twenty-first century live in a world of ubiquitous technology, and I believe in harnessing that to teach them how to engage and use technological resources responsibly, especially because many of them will be in jobs that incorporate technology in some form--even if those jobs do not exist yet. I plan to teach my students how to take advantage of digital resources, such as ways to back up documents, access research database, and books that are in the public domain or ebooks and audiobooks from the library. Furthermore, I will keep an updated teacher website design online assignments, video lectures, and collaborative projects that will emphasize student creativity and being a responsible digital citizen.
